RESOLVING DOOR CODE OF CONDUCT

Resolving Door members will not:
1. Post stories or comments that deliberately obscure their vested interests.
2. Plagiarize the work of others, fail to acknowledge source material, or use images that belong to others without their permission.
3. Abuse, threaten or verbally attack other members, individuals, or Resolving Door staff.
4. Post libelous, irrelevant, obscene or pornographic material; or content that contains racist, sexist, homophobic and other slurs.
5. Deliberately post stories that are untrue, false, or misleading, impersonate someone else or make false representations about yourself on the site, or post content with an explicitly commercial purpose (including spam and link spam).
6. Break the law in pursuit of, or during the composition or capture, of a story, photo or video.

Resolving Door members will:
1. Be accountable - take responsibility for your stories and follow up if necessary.
2. Be fair. Discourse should remain civil and focus on the ideas being presented rather than the individuals expressing them.
3. Promote interactivity and dialogue.
4. Respect the community.

Overall, Resolving Door staff urges its members to:
• Be polite, civil and respectful;
• Appreciate that text comes without tone, subtlety, facial cues or body language;
• If you must argue, make it about facts and figures, not people and personalities (it’s the post, not the poster)
• Avoid sweeping statements (ie: “All Americans are ignorant;” “Women are not as strong as men,” etc.);
• Take the high road in the face of an argument;
• Recognize that you, too, have biases and bring them to light;
• Be realistic—your opinion is not likely to change because of a comment, so why would you fight to change someone else’s?
• Remember that this is a community and that by signing up, you’ve agreed to be a positive member of that community. Everyone has a right to be part of our community but with it comes the responsibility to maintain and protect it.

The Resolving Door staff realizes that disagreements are likely and problems may occur. Should you feel that there is a problem between you and another community member, please:
1. Ignore them
2. Respond reasonably
3. Disengage
4. Hand it over to the Resolving Door staff
If you feel uncomfortable or threatened at any point, please skip directly to #4 and let us handle the situation.

Unfortunately, issues with community members seem inevitable. Though we at Resolving Door sincerely hope this is never the case, the following will be done, in this order, to those who abuse the community:
1. Send the user a warning
2. Observe the user
3. Revoke their status or block their account
In essence, one of two things must happen: The user must immediately and permanently reform; or the user must leave the site. Should neither of these things happen, the user will be blocked or see their status revoked.

Resolving Door is a community that values intelligence and openness. Our users need not subscribe to hate speech, abusive or inflammatory behavior in order to get a point across. This is not a schoolyard, and you are not a ten year old. You are the member of a community that is more than willing to support and elevate you and your work if you command respect. Remember the golden rule: Treat others as you wish to be treated, and remember that Resolving Door’s staff is here to help you make the most of your experience.
Our staff, in turn, will be ambassadors for the site and will ensure the community is being represented well; we are acutely aware that negative behavior prevents the community from being the best it can be. As such, we retain the right to do what is necessary to keep the community on a peaceful, productive level.
