Question:
Are the public computers on campus ever wiped down/disinfected?
Answer(s):
I can't say for sure and for all locations on campus, but I know in most places like Norlin, they are not wiped frequently at all. I usually use my laptop, but I do wipe down public keyboards with sanitizer and a tissue when I use them. I'm sure at least some other people do the same. I did notice however, that after Spring break, some of the keyboards looked like they'd been cleaned (in Norlin and Clare Small). I assume they do this only once or twice a semester. Gross.
I do not think that most are wiped down.
I recommend that you either:
a) Bring your own disenfecting wipes
b) Wash your hands immediately after using them
I don't think if they are wiped, it is done very well. In my microbiology class i swabed a few key boards and some stuff did grow. I mean when you look at the key board and certian letter are black from being touched you have to assume its dirty and not being cleaned regularly
They do cleanings during the breaks. On the other hand the cleaning staff has so much to do. If you ever stick around after class or late at night in the library you realize how trashy students are and how much work they do. Asking them to also clean the key boards regularly would be too much.
The cleaning crews at night wipe down the computers and the keyboards so don't worry it's clean
