Question:
Do you prefer bikers yell "on your left" or "on your right" when you are walking on campus or say nothing? It seems like pedestrians often react by moving into the path of the biker when this happens.
Answer(s):
I like it when they do that because then I get a warning and do not accidentally get into their way.
I prefer them to yell on your left because that's the standard warning of bikers and I know to move out of the way.
Haha. This has happened to me many times when they accidently move to the side you tell them you're on. I would suggest definitely saying something as sometimes pedestrians change direction and do not know a biker is behind them. It only happens on occasion that they move to the side you tell them you are on.
i definitely prefer it when bikers say either. it's a pretty simplistic statement and should keep you from having any unfortunate accidents.
Its a funny phenomenon actually because whenever a biker says "on your right/left" my mind automatically goes the direction that they said, even though that's the opposite of what they meant. I would honestly say that if its one person, just navigate around them to avoid confusion. If its a group of kids, then you should probably say something.
the best thing to do if your walking is to stay your course. dont second guess or jump or mislead the bycyclist whose obviously going faster than you and would have to take a more drastic redirection to avoid you. it is up to the discrepancy of bikers to go around peds and give them the right of way
I prefer that if i dont look behind and they notice that i am focusing on something else for them to say on your respective side
I prefer that bikers on campus just get off their bikes and walk since it takes ten minutes to get from one side to the other

...Get a bell. I have one. It works. I ring it when approaching people, they turn around, see me coming, and then they figure the rest out (moving to the proper side, etc.) The bell doesn't really work on people with headphones or that are not paying attention, but neither does yelling....
as said before, bells are the best way, even though you get some odd looks. they think bike and always move over, even without looking.
I don't really mind. Whatever way is fine with me.
I like them saying on my left for some reason because I want to be on the right. But bikers on campus are pretty annoying cutting through massive traffic.
it doesn't matter as long as they are clear and make sure that i can hear their warning
