It depends on what you plan to use it for and how often you plan to use it. I paid $200 for a mountain bike that does the job, but I don't take any extended trips/rides. Depends on your budget and what you want out of the bike.

I know avid bikers who spend upwards of a thousand dollars on a bike, but you can get a decent bike to get you from A to B for 200 or less. Check out Craigslist, there are always bikes posted there for good prices
