it just depends on the group. it takes money for school clubs to put stuff together and buy everyone refreshments and food for meetings, as well as planning trips and getting really good deals on things

Most do have free memberships but some have annual dues, usually not too much

yes some groups charge a fee - the herd - other do not, like the anime club, of college democrats..
