There isn't much for camping "in" Boulder. There are lots of camping spots all along the peak to peak highway (CO72? go to Ned, go north or south) or going up Rollins pass. If you don't have a car, you can take the N bus to Nederland and bike a few miles to a campground and hiking.

I'd say go to Nederland; you can get there by bus, the people are cool, and there's a lot of great camping around the area.

If you really are looking for an amazing camping spot Id suggest King's Crown at the summit of the flatirons. Most amazing view of my life, especially at night.
